Each of the four gospels is written to a specific audience to emphasize a specific element of Jesus' Ministry here on earth. Matthew was speaking to the Jews and wanted them to see that Jesus was the Messiah. Mark wrote to Romans instead of Jews. His theme was Jesus the Messiah, “the Servant of Jehovah,”—God the Father’s servant. While Luke, because he was part of Paul’s ministry, focused on telling the Gospel to Gentiles (non-Jews), and more to Greeks than Romans. Being a medical doctor, he emphasized Jesus’ being a man—Jesus as the Messiah, “the Son of Man.” John, our focus here, wants to prove what we consider to be the most important element of Jesus' time here, that He was God. Each of the gospels chooses the facts about Jesus—what He said, the Miracles He performed, how He described Himself, what He did and when—that expressed what they wanted to show and would impress their audience. John chose 7 Miracles, 7 discussions, and 7 "I am" statements to prove that Jesus Christ is God incarnate. This book discusses those 7 miracles, not only the miracles themselves, but their meaning, and particularly how they show that the man performing them was God. That "I (Jesus) and the Father are One."
