Suratul Fatiah is a Book on the Aqeedah (Ideology) of Islam. It presents Allah as the Centre of human pursuit and concern. It summarises the powerlessness and helplessness of man in his attempt to live a useful life. It convinces man not only to rely absolutely on Allah as the Lord and owner of all that exists but also as the only competent and qualified Master to instruct part of His creatures (humans) on how to use part of His creatures (the earth and its contents). Doing this demonstrates our appreciation (Hamd) of Allah's Sovereignty and Mercy in creating us and assisting us to live a useful life. This implies a rejection of any other idea apart from that of Allah in our struggle to live peacefully (more on this later In Shaa Allah). Allah makes it short (just seven ayaats) but comprehensive, leaving nothing of the ideology unexplained. He then makes it a compulsory reading in our daily Salawaat so as to serve as a reminder or ideological slogan to be repeated 17 times a day while observing our salawaat which also means reminder-Dhkir. It is, therefore, truly the Mother of the Book. With your kind permission, we can now proceed to read Suratul Fatiah as a discourse Abstract of the Qur'an.
