Inspiration is plentiful, but grasping it can be difficult. Like grains of sand, the beautiful details of the world tickle us constantly, and yet it is so easy to get locked away from all of that. Writer’s block is a common enough phenomenon that everyone has heard of it, but as I’ve grown in my contemplation of poetry I’ve realized the road to a strong poem is a long one, and less about following inspiration than about dedication and craft. Inspiration trickles in like the sand of an hourglass – we can capture it best in our journals and initial scribbles, but the meat of poem writing is in the editing – maybe writer’s block is a natural process to force us to step out of the inspirational phase and into the craft one.The poems in this project are gems, crafted carefully and filled with the details of each author’s profoundly unique life. I invite you to venture into this sandstorm and taste these poems we’ve bled for and crafted so carefully.
