These delightful German Dances by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) are intended for intermediate-level recorder players (or a student with teacher), arranged for soprano and tenor recorder (or two soprano recorders). Haydn wrote them in the 1790s, either for orchestra or keyboard. Haydn's collective works, catalogued by Anthony van Hoboken, contain approximately 750 entries. Haydn spent most of his career in employment of the wealthy Esterházy family at their Eszterháza Castle near Vienna.This valuable collection of minuet-like dances from Hob. IX were popular in the Classical era with the aristocracy, and they are appropriate today for varied performances in school, church, civic, and more by performers of all ages and abilities.
