Birgitta is excited that she is finally going to meet her father for the first time when he returns home after eleven years as a political POW in the Soviet Gulag. Little does she realize this will set wheels in motion that will forever change her life. After her father rejoins the German Foreign Office, she will discover a new and eye opening world as she first leaves Sweden and moves to Germany and has to become a German little girl even though she doesn’t speak the language yet. Her father’s work as a diplomat will help her become multilingual and discover different cultures. Growing up in different countries, she also faces challenges navigating through different school systems. All these circumstances help shape and form Birgitta.
