The Mythic Circle is the creative writing journal of The Mythopoeic Society and publishes fiction, poetry, and images created in the tradition of fantasy literature established by J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, and the Inklings. As of 2020, the editors are Victoria Gaydosik (general manager and fiction) and Nolan Meditz (poetry). The Society has published creative writing since 1971; The Mythic Circle has been published since 1987. The journal is currently published on an annual basis and appears in time for the Mythopoeic Society Convention each August. The current issue for 2020, #42, includes stories featuring sea-maidens ("Falling for a Cornish Maid," by Ella Wallsworth-Bell), dragons ("The Dreaded Tome of Urawn," by Lee Clark Zumpe), re-envisionings of the Trojan War ("Iphegenia," by Ama Kirchner, and "Equuleus of Troy," by DC Mallery), a troll and a king ("Troll," by Kevan Kenneth Bowkett), retribution for betrayed love-vows ("Betrothal," by Lawrence Buentello), a mythical forest refuge ("The Tree That Stood Forever," by Mary Alice Dixon), a heroic adventure ("Epic," by David Sparenberg), and a supernatural meeting between C. S. Lewis and Mark Twain ("Working Title," by S. Dorman). The issue also includes a dramatized conversation between Arthur and Guinevere ("Six Years After the Wedding," by Joe R. Christopher), and poems in a mythic vein by Holly Day, David Sparenberg, Meg Moseman, and Mack W. Mani.
