Imagine a massive wave of molasses flowing your way—a monstrous dark wave of disaster wiping out everything in its path. . . Towering over Boston's North End freight yard and wharf is the tank. Fifty feet tall, it's filled with molasses that leaks sweet streams of sticky liquid down its sides. Twelve-year-old Toby thinks, dreams and plays marbles. Tag, a new boy, freshly emigrated from Italy, also loves marbles and owns a vast prize collection. Toby vows to win them all, and so the games begin. The boys hold the play-off game on a warm winter day in January 1919. They are down in the freight yard when the huge wave of molasses engulfs them and their fight for survival begins. TANK is a fast-paced adventure based on an actual historical event. An exciting read for ages 8 and up.
