Do you feel dread, confusion, deep hurt, betrayal or anger when you think of the abuse you have suffered? Or maybe you feel nothing at all. You have every right to these feelings…they are natural reactions to the trauma you have survived. The Way: Stations of the Cross for Survivors of Abuse is the way Jesus took to overcome dread, confusion, deep hurt, betrayal and anger not only for his experience of abuse – which culminated in his death on the cross and new life in the Resurrection – but for your abuse as well. You can choose to walk The Way with him, learn his ways, transform your pain and suffering into a new life, the life God has always wanted for you, but that the sins of another acted upon you has disfigured in countless ways. The Way of the Cross - also known as Stations of the Cross - is a spiritual devotion to the Passion of Jesus consisting of prayers and meditations on occurrences that were experienced by Jesus on the way to His crucifixion and death. Tradition holds that after Jesus’ death, the Blessed Virgin Mary daily walked the road of Jesus’ Passion. St. Jerome writes of how crowds of pilgrims from all countries used to visit these holy places as well. “Stations” developed on this holy road as the pilgrims honored places where Scripture and tradition hold that critical events occurred on Jesus' journey to Calvary. The Way of the Cross is a devotion practiced by Catholics and other Christian denominations. The stations used in this book are derived from a combination of scriptural and traditional stations.
