Paths to ChristThis is a lay person’s journey. I called the book Paths to Christ in the plural because each of us is on a unique journey. Jesus spoke to us in parables so that each of us hears the story in that a way that resonates with our biography, but also that the word is aimed at a universal community. My guidance has been the Commandments to love God with all my heart and to love my neighbour as I love myself. I need to continuously try to answer the question: how would I like to be treated if I was in that person’s position if I was the migrant, if I was the person with disability and the person who is poor and with no voice to be heard.I think of my life as being defined by many blessings, that I know I am here because God loves me. God is the God of Love.Jesus tells us to forgive seventy seven times. We are human; we make mistakes. We also need to be forgiven and therefore we need to forgive others. There must be no resentment in our heart, no iron in our souls.I think of the Parable of the Prodigal Son who run homes with tears in his eyes, asks his father to forgive him, but the father is watching for his son’s return, he throws a party. Then there is the son who stayed behind, who seems to resent his brother's return. He seems unable to be happy, seeing his father is happy. We must not have resentment.Jesus tells we need to be like children to accept the Word of God. Like children means that we need to hear it with optimism and with hope and like children, trust in God.Jesus tells us that when we pray, we address God as our Father. It is the nearest we can get to understand God. To see God as our father who loves us.The book is about imagination and us making pictures as we read through passages in the New Testament. Rather than just reading words, we turn these words in to pictures, to try to be there in the story, to be present at the wedding feast in Cana, to be present when Jesus heals the disabled man, when he is preaching at the Sermon on the Mount or when he feeds the five thousand, to be there, to be part of the crowd. To hear the words ‘Jesus is coming’ and to think how I would be feeling at that moment.Faith ebbs and flows. Sometimes I feel I understand; at other times - and there are many such times - it all becomes a blur. At that moment, I seek to retrace my thinking. That is Faith; to hold on in those moment of quiet and silence.I am dedicating this book to my grandmother Ursula who loved me cared for me and allowed for me to be the person I am today.Endorsements:I found it very moving: it's a spiritual journal. Dr Catherine Gibson, Reader in TheologyIt is a privilege to read your thoughts. They are filled with true emotion, beauty and integrity – a person seeking to live and be immersed in gospel truth and values. You are searching for your true humanity as found in Jesus Christ. It is filled with spirituality. Canon Philip Gray - Vicar, St. Margaret's Church, IlkleyThis is quite an interesting read. I appreciate the fact that all this comes from time spent in reading, reflecting and meditating. I am sure this will help others understand better on how to read the Gospels.
