Official records of divorces in the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri—even those from the county’s earliest years—are closed to researchers because of the personal information they contain. However, late 1800s divorces were reported extensively (though erratically) in newspapers. The present work, which can serve as a substitute for the original court records, is an index to reports of Jackson County divorce suits that appeared in Kansas City, Missouri, newspapers between 1880 and 1900.
