Engineer Tryphon Mbumba Mabanza was born in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He Studied
Philosophy and Theology in various seminaries of the Archidiocese of Kinshasa. He completed four years of
graduate studies (BSC Hons) in Clinical Technology at the Limerick Institute of Technology focusing on the technology of medical devices. He is an Engineer (MSC) in Materials engineering which is involved in materials analysis and characterization together with a detailed knowledge of materials processing and surface technology. He is the author of "Do not associate God to terrorist acts..." in English and French versions.

Considered as a medical device, the anaesthetic machine dispenses the gases that are necessary to induce sleep and prevent pain to patients. To achieve this goal anaesthesia machine must be of high quality. Without proper quality, installation, and preventive maintenance of a clinical anaesthesia machine, it will be difficult for healthcare providers to treat patients in a systematic way. It will also be impossible for the clinical anaesthesia machine to produce the expected results and to meet the patient’s expectations. This book produces an example of everyday checking Quality Assurance protocol for the clinical anaesthesia machine which contains instructions and step by step procedures on how to perform an everyday check of the machine before every patient and every time a different clinician uses the system. The protocol describes the checking procedures for the clinical anaesthesia machine in a quality manner and in accordance with applicable regulations and standards to achieve efficiency, uniformity of performance, to reduce miscommunication and failure and to ensure patient safety. This book explains the different parts of the anaesthesia machine and their respective roles. It demonstrates how the machine works. It determines certain clinical conditions (diseases) for which it may be used in a clinical setting. It provides some failure or faults information on the use of both anaesthetic agents and a clinical anaesthesia machine. It underlines the importance of Quality Assurance when using an anaesthesia machine. Moreover, it refers to some international standards (ISO) for anaesthesia machine safety and quality assurance. Furthermore, it produces a documented process of demonstrating if a clinical anaesthesia machine meets a defined set of requirements. It also produces five important documents which are attached to this book as annexes such:

  • Recommendations of the anaesthetist associations on the checking procedure of a clinical anaesthesia machine.
  • The anaesthesia machine checking instructions procedure.
  • Abbreviated form of the anaesthesia machine checking procedure to print out and laminate.
  • The Validation document of the anaesthesia machine to be considered as documentary evidence demonstrating that the procedure or activity carried out in checking the anaesthesia machine maintains the desired level of compliance at all stages. It is about the record that the machine has been checked.
  • Some examination questions related to a clinical anaesthesia machine.
