On his deathbed, the German cosmographer Martin Behaim reveals a secret to the Portuguese navigator Fernão de Magalhães: The existence of a passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans that would allow reaching the Spice Islands, always sailing Westward. Magellan appears before the King of Portugal, offering him to carry out the expedition, but is rejected.
