In writing this book, ‘Messages from the heart of God’, my prayer was always, “God, what is on your heart? Help me to hear and to write that.” I would spend as much time, if not more, praying, listening and contemplating as I did writing. I wanted to lay down a trail of words that would lead the reader on a journey of inspiration, encouragement and hope. To hear messages from the heart of God that would teach us, or remind us, of His great love, care and grace. Words that help us to know Him and to know His ways. Especially in the difficulties, the trials and the uncertainties of our daily lives.

The chapters do not follow a continuous theme or topic, but are short standalone messages – most in prose, some in poetry - that can be read and digested individually.

The writing is informal and devotional, rather than academic or theological. Except, hopefully, in the sense that Henri Nouwen describes theology:

"The original meaning of the word 'theology' was 'union with God in prayer'.... It is of vital importance to reclaim the mystical aspect of theology so that every word spoken, every word of advice given and every strategy developed can come from a heart that knows God intimately."

And so, many of the chapters, although different in theme, collectively have as their source and their destination, intimacy and relationship with God.

My prayer, as you read this book, is that you would be drawn into this same intimacy and relationship with our heavenly father. And, in these chapters, that you would hear His voice inspiring, encouraging and giving hope.
