It is a grand love story surrounded by the shocking violence of what some consider the other American Civil War - the struggle between the U.S. Federal Government and the Native Americans of the western plains. Star Bird has beautifully drawn descriptions of time, place and characters grounded in the international politics of that era with an ending that leaves the reader holding their breath.
