"The Fields We Still Till" is an anthology of poems that delve into the recurring frustrations and challenges we face individually and as a nation. It is a representation of the American racial experiment. From the injustice of indentured servitude to the revival of nationalism threatening the harmonic existence of diverse and inclusive communities.
Each poem speaks to the familiar spaces of deference and indifference where we labor in the ever-sweltering heat of socio-economic oppression. The space where we dream of the greener pastures of democracy’s promise and fall victim to its lesser yield. The content state of an everyday life, that limits us to concrete pastures in artificial worlds, where manufactured suns shine above our heads, and we toil away each day attempting to harvest a life and purpose from the remaining remnants of hope we cling to. These are our challenges, and these are the fields we still till!
