In this warm and inspiring memoir, Eleanor Brettle recalls life from her schooldays in Nottingham before the Second World War through to an active and much-travelled retirement. Eleanor loved sport and an outdoor lifestyle. She worked for the Ministry of Agriculture in the 1950s before marriage to a farmer, raising a family and becoming a Sea Scout Leader amongst many other activities.
Her later life involved considerable travel throughout the UK and Europe, including many commemorations of the D-Day landings in Normandy, in which her husband had taken part. Her lifelong love of flowers and gardening was enhanced by visits to explore the flora of Norway and Switzerland. Alongside all this, Eleanor raised three sons and now has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anyone interested in social history and women's lives in the Twentieth century will find this book a fascinating read!
