Twelve-year old Luca finds himself to be the only survivor of his village.
Setting out on a lone quest, hoping to find refuge, the boy meets an aged monk who provides him with food and shelter.
The monk becomes the boy’s mentor, teaching Luca to read and write, and instructing him in the medicinal and combative skills that he had learned in an earlier life.
The monk gifts Luca an enchanted ring, that supposedly once belonged to the brother of Moses.
Luca leads an ordinary life, meeting, and befriending farm people and villagers alike.
However, when a War Lord and his soldier’s rape and kill the wife of a local farmer, the life of Luca changes dramatically.
