Tertullian tried to silence her story and the Pastoral Epistles warned about women like her. The Acts of Paul and Thecla was widespread and popular but then was hidden away in the Apocrypha. In recent years, Thecla has come out of the shadows. Her story reframes conventional views of second-century Jesus communities. Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Bernard Brandon Scott is the Darbeth Distinguished Professor of New Testament Emeritus, Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A charter member of the Jesus Seminar, he is the author of many books, among them Hear Then the Parable (1989), The Real Paul (2015), and A Religious History of Abortion (2023). He is coauthor of Sound Mapping the New Testament (Cascade Books, 2009, 2nd edition 2022), After Jesus Before Christianity (2021), and Out of the Shadows, the Acts of [Paul and] Thecla (Cascade Books, 2024).
