Inhaltsangabe

(Up-dated April 2026) An English new wave band, Duran Duran was formed in 1978 in Birmingham, West Midlands, by John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Stephen Duffy. The band was named after Dr. Durand Durand, a character played by Milo O’Shea in the 1968 sci-fi film, Barbarella.

The following year, Roger Taylor joined the band, which experienced a number of changes before May 1980, when Duran Duran’s classic five-man line-up was established: Andy Taylor, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Roger Taylor and Simon Le Bon.

Duran Duran’s debut single, Planet Earth, gave them their first hit. The hits kept on coming, with two singles ~ Is There Something I Should Know? and The Reflex ~ and the band’s third album, SEVEN AND THE RAGGED TIGER, all going to no.1 in the UK.

Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor quit the band in 1986, which led to a number of changes in personnel, before Duran Duran’s classic line-up reformed in 2003, with a new album ASTRONAUT released the following year.

Duran Duran was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
