What is the good portion? What is the one thing in this world that is necessary to get right? What matters above all else? What is most worthy of our time and attention? Martha was serving the Lord, but she was distracted. She had lost sight of who she was serving and why she was serving Him. If we do all the work, but have not love for God and His people, our service is loud and offensive to His ears. But Jesus said that Mary chose the good portion. And all that she did was sit at the feet of Jesus. All that she did was look at Him and love Him with all of her heart. This is what God wants from you and me above all else, that we would look at Him and be captivated. God’s greatest desire for us is revealed in His greatest commandment: that we would choose to wholeheartedly love Him above all else; more than our families, our ministries, and even our own lives.
