Apologetics is not the art of apology. It has nothing to do with being sorry. It has everything to do with reason and thought. Especially as it has to do with Christianity. The internet says that apologetics is reasoned arguments about something controversial. It seems these days that following Jesus is controversial, so I guess it fits. But my rallying cry as to why people need to study apologetics (or at least have a bit of apologetics background) is 1 Peter 3:15. …but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect… Make a defense with gentleness and respect. But to make a defense, you must be prepared.
