This 8-frame stamp exhibit presents how the early Ethiopian Posts developed in seven stages. It is the most complete exhibit of this period shown to date at any stamp show worldwide. The exhibit begins with the printing of stamps, in 1894. It ends with Ethiopia joining the UPU in November 1908.

An ongoing census over 25 years of covers and cards preserved from the 14 years of 1895-1909, records 1,434
items in the Ethiopia Cover List. The exhibit shows 165 covers and cards from 1895-1909, or 10% of the outgoing mail, 31% of the internal mail, and 26% of the incoming mail recorded in the Ethiopia Cover List. That is 12% of the 1,434 items
recorded, estimated to be over 90% of all items preserved.

The exhibit also presents the evolution in the sales and use in Ethiopia of stamps from Djibouti, Obock, French Levant, PortSaid and from India (as used in Aden) and British Somaliland based on the exhibitor’s original research

The exhibit presented in this book is the culmination of 35 years of searching for the very best and rarest of Ethiopia’s postal history items. I am proud this exhibit was awarded a Large Gold at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, CA in 2022. This portion of my collection was exhibited as “The Development of the Ethiopian Posts 1894-1909.” A precursor exhibit was awarded Gold at Stockholmia 2019, the 150th Anniversary celebration of The Royal Philatelic Society London.
