Camp Hamptons

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Almost everyone in America came from somewhere else, whether today or in generations past. Problem is, those who have laid a stake sometimes turn around and want to shut the door to newcomers. No one knows this better than David Roth, a billionaire, who wants no more invasive newcomers. He uses his enormous wealth to fund the presidential campaign of Preston Carver, Republican candidate. His laser-focused goal is to upend and destroy the campaign of Carver's opponent, Constance Mead, the liberal Democrat who, in every speech, quotes the famous Emma Lazarus poem from the bottom of the Statue of Liberty. 'Give me your tired, your poor etc.' Roth hatches a staggeringly expensive and cunning plan that will, in one evening, decimate the candidacy of Ms. Mead. That is, if all goes right. Camp Hamptons is a story that takes the reader on journey from the island of Lampedusa, Italy to the beaches of East Hampton, NY. It skewers long held beliefs on both sides. It is funny, cynical, touching and unbelievably prescient. It reflects these turbulent times like a mirror. A funhouse mirror. Artikel-Nr. 9798349242137
