This is the story of my specialty training as an ophthalmologist. My residency training begins in Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and then concluded in four years with the US Public Health Service in San Francisco.Before leaving I describe some of the Hippie culture that began in San Francisco and the tremendous cultural impact of drugs and "flower power". We moved to Honolulu where I began group practice with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group and began raising my three children with my marvelous wife Mary Jo. After five years, I was convinced to go solo and begin my own private practice. Initially I was reluctant but ultimately was quite pleased.
