Neuware - This is an English translation of a Vietnamese language book by Nguy?n-Ð?c-Cung entitled 'History of the Highland Region According to 'The Account of the Barbarian Province'' (L?ch-S? Vùng Cao Qua Vu Man T?p L?c Thu). Cung translates an important ancient (1871) document written in Chinese characters by a Vietnamese (Ð?i-Vi?t) General about the Ð?i-Vi?t's pacification, administration, and care of the mountain minorities of Central Vietnam, a document which had never been available completely, even in contemporary Vietnamese. He also provides critical review of existing literature on the issue and detailed explanatory notation on the ancient document itself. As such Cung's book is the 'last word' on the history of relationships between the Vietnamese and the mountain minorities whom they encountered in Central Vietnam in their 'advance to the South' (Nam Ti?n).
