Before Japanese Giants Brad Boyle published a series of fanzines, which grew increasingly kaiju focused as information on the genre emerged. Starting with the OfMSF Newsletter (Organization for More Science Fiction) with a circulation limited to his junior high school, Boyle quickly built the fanzine into a national distributed zine after changing the name to Monstrosities. Boyle ended Monstrosities with issue ten to focus on a new fanzine, Sci-Fi. Despite plans to build Sci-Fi into a premier amateur publication, Boyle abandoned it after Japanese Giants folded and fanzine founder Mark Rainey gave Boyle approval to continue the franchise.
