Napoleon’s Coup: 18 Brumaire is a political satire novel which dramatizes the little-known intrigues of Napoléon Bonaparte’s ‘double’ coup. It narrates events of the three-week period that led to Bonaparte’s rise as First Consul, the first step to his becoming Emperor of the French. While it sheds light on Napoléon’s political savviness, it also serves to uncover the selfish motivations of all the chief players…motivations often blanketed by the purported interests of France, the Republic and the Revolution.
1799. Revolutionary France. The Council elections have handed majority to the hard-left Jacobin Deputies. Only the Directory, an unpopular, corrupt and paranoid pentarchy, stands in the way of the Terror making a comeback. Political battles divide the country just as France’s war efforts are failing. In these circumstances, one General Bonaparte, sensing his time is come, abandons Egypt and returns unexpectedly to France.
What happen next are shady, high-stakes intrigues that the memoirs of the chief players of the times leave undisclosed. But these events are certain to thoroughly test Bonaparte, the self-assured military genius, in an area of inexperience – high politics. Pursuing his insatiable ambition could make him master, but his own impatience and overconfidence could also subvert ALL!
