Inhaltsangabe

After 30 years of teaching 21 different subjects across 26 different schools in both England and Northern Ireland, with over 10 years of commuting on planes as a teacher, these memoirs offer an insight into the teaching profession that very few others could match. State schools, private schools, international schools, Brethren school, international college, adult night classes, all boy’s schools, all girl’s schools, mixed schools, protestant schools, catholic schools, and integrated schools. I’ve taught in them all and been an examiner. Discussions on education from a classroom teacher’s perspective, and many stand out encounters over the years permeate throughout the work.
For anyone with any interest in the teaching profession and in schools, this sheds a light on what it is to be a classroom teacher, and how it is changing and has changed over the last 30 years. It shows schools of both the wealthy and the not so wealthy, schools from across the divide in Northern Ireland, international and British schools, and the closed community of The Brethren.
It shows how teachers ultimately are not truly valued in the UK by Conservative governments and why so many end up leaving the profession. Many teachers though remain, as it is our vocation.
It’s written in a light-hearted matter of fact style and tries not to lose its focus and pace throughout.
