It goes on ...
The wealthy and those who serve them
Society norms and those who break them
Family traditions and those who flaunt them
Lord Croukerne languishes in his wheelchair while his daughters reach marriageable age. Lady Croukerne takes on a flighty phase; whether it will last is the question on everyone's mind, especially the servants', who see her outbursts and delusions as unsettling. Social blunders made by Angus Crownrigg puzzle Lady Geraldine, but his uncle steps in to assure the family he is not only a favourable fiancé, but a very wealthy one. Mirth and companionship is seen below stairs, even when some of the servants are asked to make changes. Lady Athena despairs of ever finding a husband, and Lady Geraldine makes an unexpected friend.

A Suitable Husband continues the saga of Lord Croukerne's family on their estate in Gloucestershire. It follows masters, mistresses and servants through good times and bad as they journey towards the end of the 19th century.
