The age old debate of women in ministry has long enslaved women who felt called to ministry. The book begins with Pastor Bethany Zang sharing her own story and struggle with being called to ministry but not being empowered to fulfil it. Pastor Matthew Zang then brings clarity and historical context to the Scriptures that have been used in this debate, to include the Scripture where Paul appears to instruct women to be silent in church. Although the book has theology in it, it is written to be understood by the layman. You will learn much about Scripture, history, and biblical interpretation, however you will not need a dictionary to follow the authors' thoughts.
There are three main text used in the New Testament to conclude that women cannot Pastor. In this book Pastor Matthew will dive deep into the context and historical setting of each of these text. On the surface, it appears that 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, “Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak”, is a direct Pauline command. Then there is, 1 Timothy 2:11-15, “Let a woman learn in silence with all submission”. Lastly, in I Timothy 3:1-2, Paul appears to write that only man are to be Bishops. Are these commands blanket statements made to every Church for every generation? Or are these commands specific situational commands that apply to specific churches? In this compelling must-read book, Pastor Matthew will explain the proper context of these commands and how they would apply to the church today.
