Having been dealt losing hands so many times in his life, Paul East trusts no one other than two school friends. Even when the very attractive Fiona Small pops up in his life he is suspicious. He may love her and love being with her, but he still has doubts. Can he really trust her?

Whilst Paul and Fiona are in London for his appointment with a neurological specialist, Paul’s mother is reported missing, presumed dead. She was holidaying on a yacht in Turkey with friends when pirates called. Despite disliking her immensely, when he hears the Turkish Police aren’t really interested in trying to find her, Paul rises to the challenge. He and Fiona attempt to discover what has really happened and where she or her remains have ended up. It is apparent that Paul is driven more by discovering if his brain is up to the job of finding her than he is about actually saving her, until something changes his mind. Having assembled a small team to help with the enormous task ahead, his problems then double when one team member disappears whilst carrying out surveillance. Paul resolutely presses on even as the danger level rises. During the search for more information he comes face to face with his chief suspect. As they sit either side of a backgammon board Paul learns how ruthless this adversary really is and the stakes rise to an unbelievable level. Is Paul East really capable of taking on these Turkish criminals and succeeding in finding the missing team member as well as his own mother? Most importantly, will they both still be alive if he does?
