This artist's book is a monograph collection of poetry, prose, photography, and visual art. The collected prose suites were produced over the past few decades. The work represents the wordy visual pictures Balk produced while living and working in New York, the Middle East, Europe, and rural Virginia. Short stories and visual collage boards engage an expanding impulse to represent a personal perspective in zones of perennial conflict. Formally, the book is a collection of fast fictions expressed in bursts of visual material; like any prose, it seeks to communicate what cannot be easily written.
