Sam was living his best life and couldn’t have been happier. He’d fallen in love, married, travelled and became a father by way of adoption in 2020. Some may say that he had it all. The fairytale came to an abrupt ending in 2022 when he noticed a small change in his appearance. At just 35 he was diagnosed with the life limiting illness, Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as ALS.

He has since approached life with a fiercely positive mindset, accomplishing all that he sets his mind to. He is determined to leave a legacy that made a difference.

We meet him three years on, still working full time, which he believes has supported his longevity with the disease. He is a passionate advocate for the MND community, especially those diagnosed in the younger generations. His unrelenting drive to raise awareness and fundraise for the Motor Neurone Disease Association is both admirable and inspiring. .

MND: The Club You Don’t Want To Join is Sam’s debut book. He writes about his early life from child to adulthood with an open heart, sharing the unimaginable news of receiving a terminal diagnosis and how, when life handed him lemons, he made lemonade!

"What an honest, raw, brutal, heartbreaking and at times hilarious read. I’ve laughed. I’ve cried. So many of your words have rung true to my own experience of having a family member living with MND; What it must have been like for him; and what it was like for us. Thank you for sharing your story. I’ve no doubt this will help so many people living with this cruel disease and their families and also help people who have thankfully never had to experience a life with MND in it.” ~ Daniel Brocklebank, Ambassador of Motor Neurone Disease Association & Actor
