In the years following the Civil War, Monument, Wyoming—a once-thriving timber town—has withered into a quiet waystation, passed over in favor of greater ambitions elsewhere. Robert “Teacher” Hess lives a quiet life with his wife, Love. Her brother—and Robert’s oldest friend—is Deputy Arnold Harris, a haunted veteran of the war.

Strange acts of violence and unsettling phenomena begin to plague the town, beginning with the tragic death of the town’s Sheriff and culminating in a siege by a brutal gang of killers, led by the infamous Delroy “The Hangman” Ironwood.

In the aftermath, a handful of survivors—which include Teacher and Deputy Harris—ride across the plains seeking retribution, led by Harris’ former commander: A shadowy Army Colonel with his cadre of veteran sharpshooters.

But what they seek is no longer flesh and blood. Beyond the plains, something ancient waits beneath the sky—where hidden truths will be unearthed, and the fragile seams of sanity begin to fray.
