The novella The High Forest was written by Adalbert Stifter in 1841 and first published in Pest in 1842.
The novella takes place in the Bohemian Forest in what is now the border area between Austria and the Czech Republic
and is set during the time of the Thirty Years War. The poetic nature of this work reflects both Stifter the artist and Stifter the naturalist.
