If you hold views rooted in racism, xenophobia, homophobia, or misogyny, this probably isn't your book. It's for readers who love children, fantasy, and – even if they still eat them – animals.

Fair warning: the opening chapter is intentionally jarring. It draws on the comparison some noted philosophers have made between one of the darkest chapters in modern history and humanity's ongoing treatment of animals. It makes a hard argument — that the dehumanization of people and our indifference to animal suffering are deeply connected. When we grow numb to the pain we cause animals, even passively, that numbness doesn't stay contained: It bleeds into how we treat each other. And the reverse is true, too. The storyline begins in Chapter Two.

What Readers are saying:

“I really loved this book, keep them coming - What a trip and I mean literally. This book was so good it was like watching the old guy Bob Ross with the Afro who wore these hippie clothes and painted on PBS back in the day, so ridiculous but you couldn't take your eyes away. That's how good this book is. I recommend this for all, it will blow your mind. A+”

“A fierce, visionary, and fiercely uncompromising masterwork of dark ecological fantasy [Reviewed in Spain] – [A] staggering, towering achievement in modern speculative fiction, a work that boldly reclaims fantasy’s oldest purpose: to serve as a mirror to the darkest, most carefully hidden horrors of our actual world. By shattering the comfortable myth of human supremacy and stepping directly into the industrialized nightmare of factory farming and systemic exploitation, this narrative delivers a visceral, intellectually explosive assault on complacency. It treats the reader like an intelligent peer, refusing to dilute its moral urgency or coat its fury in easy, sugar-sweet cliches.”

“Stays with you - Terrific trilogy, in which the author builds a fabulous world…. Chapter 1…is intentionally and staggeringly dramatic. The author, in the Chapter 1 fictionalized cooking competition-type scene, compares the ongoing animal holocaust to the actual Holocaust….The story has not only resonated with me, but has stayed with me. It is hard to stop thinking about it.”

“This trilogy isn’t just epic fantasy—it’s a fierce, unsettling, and strangely beautiful meditation on the way we treat the beings we share the world with. From the shocking first chapter to the final, transcendent finale, the story blends political satire, spiritual depth, and ecological fury into something completely original. The Deor and Cheela are unforgettable, the world-building is rich, and the two Children....anchor the narrative with brilliance and heartbreak. Yes, it’s dark. Yes, it’s challenging. But it’s also hopeful, visionary, and morally urgent. If you want a fantasy that lingers, provokes, and ultimately transforms, this trilogy is a must-read.”'

“Dark Fantasy with a conscience - The author blends political satire, and breathtaking imagination into a world both unsettling and transcendent. The Deor creatures, the Children, and the clash of compassion versus cruelty stay with you long after reading.”

“A Bold, Uncompromising Fantasy That Challenges as Much as It Enchants [Reviewed in Italy] [A] daring, morally charged novel that blends epic fantasy, political satire, and ethical reflection into a story that refuses to play it safe."

The characters include an oblivious population, some malevolent individuals, awesome animals with supernatural aspects, a small human support group, and two brilliant and magical minority children who have the ability to force people to see what is right in front of them.
