Most days fade. Moments do not. This book is for anyone who has faced setbacks but refuses to be defined by them. It is for leaders who want to build trust, families who want to leave something that lasts, and individuals who want to live with intention. Inside these pages, you will find short, honest reflections from real life — hard seasons, quiet victories, leadership lessons, and everyday moments that shape who we become. In this book, you will learn to control what you can, encourage someone today, speak the hard thing but the right thing, choose gratitude, and lead yourself first. This is not about perfection. It is about responsibility. Change the person in the mirror. Bless the people around you. Keep pushing forward.
Change Me. Bless Them. includes lessons and stories inspired by Damon West, Tim Tebow, Mr. Worldwide Shoeshine of Texas, Marty Smith, Michelle Buck, Santa Claus, The Tin Man, Nicholas Pearce, Joe Theismann, John Daly, Erick Rheam, John O’Leary, and Ryan Murphy.
Most of what Sean Vanslyke knows about life was not learned in a classroom but growing up in a trailer park, working multiple jobs, and leading when the stakes were real. Abused. Adopted. Rejected. Not defeated. As a teenager, his plan to join the Air Force ended when he was disqualified for sleepwalking — an early lesson in resilience and adaptability. While working for a Fortune 500 company, he also served as a school board president, leading through difficult decisions that affected families and futures and reinforcing his belief that leadership is not about position but responsibility. Today, he serves as CEO and Head Coach of SEMO Electric Cooperative and GoSEMO Fiber, and is the founder of The Friday Feature, a weekly message of encouragement shared for more than 300 consecutive weeks. Sean is a husband, dad, and grandpa who believes our daily actions matter — and how we treat people matters most.
