After reading Jesus vs Religion, I heard my own ‘sound’ that Van refers to in this book. I heard the sound of years of shepherding people coming through the pages. I heard the heart cry of desperate men and women looking for a safe place to call home in a body of believers. I heard the voice of generations of sons and daughters asking the ultimate question: Does God really love ME?
This book could not have been succinctly written by anyone but a local church pastor; there are too many points of confrontation that can offend one’s senses. Van dives deep into church community life, past and present, in all of its glorious shortcomings and flaws, while he scripturally lays out God’s original intent.
