A powerful pharmaceutical group had, for decades, distributed markers in the drinking water, making it possible to biometrically monitor the entire population.
The showdown: On the steep cogwheel railway of Mount Pilatus, the final confrontation with the unscrupulous chemist Dr. Ganz takes place . While a helicopter circles overhead, a suspected poison ampoule is destroyed. However, Rösli realizes too late: The signal to activate the surveillance system has already been sent. The people are now "marked," recognizable by an eerie blue flicker in their eyes.
The resolution: Rösli returns to Basel and resigns from his post, unable to tolerate digital surveillance. But Vontobel has taken precautions: he left behind an old grandfather clock bearing the Basel basilisk , containing physical deactivation codes on microfilm. Rösli hands these codes over to the Basel guilds , who, with their analog influence, establish a "blocking signal" and transform the Basel region into a digital blind spot – a place of freedom.
The legacy: In the epilogue, Rösli and Zgraggen hide the true "original sample" of the blue fabric in the crypt of Basel Minster .
