The first and pinnacle of Showa kaiju fanzines, Greg Shoemaker’s Japanese Fantasy Film Journal, best known for its palindromic acronym JFFJ, is a legend in Godzilla fandom. Edited and published by Shoemaker, JFFJ ran from 1968 to 1984 and played a foundational role in the development of early kaiju fandom.

Early Kaiju Fandom, Volume Five reproduces the complete run of Japanese Fantasy Film Journal: all fifteen issues published during its lifespan. The volume also includes interviews, photographs, and essays by participants in early kaiju fandom, documenting how films, information, and discussion circulated in the pre-internet era.
