Have you ever been to prison ? I have, more times than I can remember. Did that make you pause in your reading of this introduction ? Let it make you pause but please do not let it stop you reading this introduction. I’ll ask the question again:

Have you ever been to prison ? I have BEEN TO prison but I have never BEEN A PRISONER. My visits, more than I can remember, were as a prison visitor. If you have never been in the position I was it will be hard for you to understand exactly what the experience is like. If you have never been a prisoner, as I have not, then it is impossible to understand what a sentence in gaol is like. (Gaol not Jail. Within the English language prison is spelt with a G and not a J)
