Some systems do not end when the program does. They learn how to survive in the records.
In Alabama, Jamie enters an archive expecting to investigate a finished chapter of history. Instead, she finds a bureaucracy that has preserved routes, codes, certifications, and omissions more faithfully than the people whose lives they describe.
Against the historical shadow of the Tuskegee syphilis study, Jamie discovers TCS-1967-a fictional certification system built around classification, institutional memory, and the dangerous authority to decide what a record means. Family testimony contradicts official files. Names become codes. Responsibility moves from office to office until no single person appears to own it.
Then the archive itself begins to change.
A corridor appears where no corridor should exist. A lost record refuses to stay filed. And connections emerge between Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Ohio, and an inherited history no single document can explain.
