Matthew Montgomery is a young New York City newspaperman eager to advance his career. He accepts an assignment for a story on the infamous Judge Isaac Parker, known as the "Hangin' Judge in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Matt arivesmin Ft. Smith on the day of a hanging and is stunned to see six men strung up at once. When he learns that a posse
is headed out after the Buck Gang on the following morning, Matt sees an opportunity for a big story and convinces Judge Parker to allow him to join the posse. He soon realized that he may have gotten in too deep, as his life is now on the line.

After meeting a beautiful girl named Dixie, and with his confidence growing, Matt volunteers to join a second posse. What he doesn't know is that Dixie will also be going along. Now, he'll not only need to worry about saving himself, but trying to protect the woman he'd fallen in love with.
