I didn't come to photography through formal training. It started after I left the U.S. Navy and moved to Wyoming, where the landscape has a way of reminding you how small you are. I bought my first camera because it needed to be practical-small, light, and tough enough to ride in a backpack without getting in the way. That little Kodak 110 with a glass lens went with me on a lot of miles, and somewhere along the line it became part of how I paid attention to the world. A good friend, a published photographer, later handed me my first SLR-a Canon with a couple of lenses. It wasn't a dramatic moment, just the right tool at the right time. From then on, the camera came with me into the backcountry. Photography grew naturally out of those long days outside, the kind where weather, terrain, and distance all have a say in how things go. My greatest enjoyment still comes from being in wild places. Some of them take real effort to reach, and some test your endurance more than you expect. But those quiet stretches-wind in the grass, a ridge catching first light, the kind of silence you only find far from a road-those are the moments I try to bring home in my photographs for people who may never get to stand there themselves. Over the years, I've learned from photographers I respect, including Louis Curtis, James Wood, Tim Ernst, Rick Sammon, and Scott Kelby. Their influence helped shape my approach, but most of what I rely on came from time outside: patience, timing, and knowing when to wait for the light. I'm best known for my nature and landscape work, but I also have photographed portraits, weddings/events, real estate, and food/dining. My images have been recognized in juried exhibitions across Texas, Arkansas, and Wyoming, and I'm grateful for every chance to share the way I see a place.
