Inhaltsangabe

Chloe Reynolds is a Vice President of Digital Strategy-a woman whose life is a fortress of efficiency, high-yield investments, and meticulously managed control. After a low-stakes breakup exposes the flaw in her system, she decides to stop trusting "chemistry" and starts trusting data. She creates the P-Man Scorecard, a ruthless algorithm designed to find the Perfect Man: a high-status partner who will validate her success. The scorecard works too well. It delivers Ryan, the 9.6 lawyer whose emotional life is treated like a tax loophole, and Adam, the 10.0 Financial Titan who views women as accessories. The closer Chloe gets to external perfection, the colder and more hollow the men become, culminating in the catastrophic implosion of her friend Camille's seemingly flawless marriage. Chloe realizes the truth: the pursuit of the perfect catch is a systemic failure, designed to find a liability with a brilliant façade. Just as she is ready to abandon the experiment, her final date is with Luke, a chaotic, charming photojournalist who lives on his sister's sofa and scores a disastrous 5.1 on the P-Man list. Luke offers her no security, no status, and no schedule-but he is relentlessly present and honest about his flaws. Luke forces Chloe to confront her greatest fear: that she is using her own perfection as a cage. To secure the only man who makes her feel truly safe, Chloe must trade the perceived certainty of her high-status life for the radical risk of authenticity. She must liquidate her condo, resign her VP title, and commit to The Trade Wind, an unpredictable voyage across the world with the 5.1 Man, discovering that the highest yield in life is found not in eliminating the mess, but in building a resilient partnership that withstands it.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

The author, Bianca Smuts (de Koning), lives and writes from the heart of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, where her life is deeply rooted in the soil of Humansdorp and the surrounding farm communities where she grew up. Her deep connection to the South African community often inspires the themes of resilience and belonging found in her writing. A full-time accountant by trade, she dedicates her creative energy to exploring the universal themes closest to her heart: the unwavering power of friendship, the profound necessity of faith, and the quiet strength of courage. She shares her life with her beloved husband, Bennie Smuts, and their three beautiful daughters (while always honoring the memory of their angel daughter). The family is active in the Dutch Reformed Church in the Loerie Community. When she's not balancing ledgers or crafting emotionally resonant novels, you can find this proud farm girl indulging in the simple, joyful things: perhaps playing in the rain and mud with her children, or gathering friends and family around a perfect South African braai.
