449 years separate them. Intrinsically entwined. Both on a quest to save God: 2028: DI Westmoor of Colsden, Bletchley CID, must solve the murder of an eminent Cambridge professor in ancient civilisations or see an abrupt end to his career - the killer? A professional assassin. Except, before Westmoor can get to grips with the case, a second case falls upon him - the mass slaughter of Colsdens' finest teenagers; in a scout hut; apparently in the middle of conducting a Satanic ritual. 1579: 15yo Elias the Scribe, an orphan, is thrown into a world of secret orders and clandestine societies vying for control - not of kingdoms, but of God himself. His mentor and saviour, Lord Montague Ashcombe is struck down by the hand of God as he conducts an ancient mystical ritual. Now Elias has only one place he can turn for succour. To the eerie grey priory in Stigolford, on the windswept Somerset coast, home of the Order of the Black Monks. For they had warned him of the impending catastrophe. Warned him, as Inquisitors to Queen Elizabeth, that Lord Ashcombe was meddling with powers he could not comprehend.
