Inhaltsangabe

What happens to faith when the answers stop making sense?

When Mark Wallace Maguire’s son was born with a chromosome deletion, the life he had imagined for his family changed forever. As a father, he found himself confronting questions he never expected to ask: Why would God allow this? Where is God in suffering? What does faith look like when prayers don’t produce the answers we want?

But First, We Must Begin in the Dark: A Father’s Journey into Special Needs & Faith is an honest and deeply personal exploration of those questions.

Drawing from his own experience as a special needs father, conversations with other fathers, and the wisdom of writers and theologians including C.S. Lewis, Henri Nouwen, and Frederick Buechner, Maguire explores the complicated intersection of faith, disability, fatherhood, suffering, and hope.

This is not a book offering easy answers or tidy explanations. Instead, it is an invitation to enter the darkness honestly and to discover that sometimes faith begins not when we find the answers, but when we learn to remain present in the questions.

For parents raising children with special needs, fathers struggling with faith, caregivers navigating uncertainty, and anyone who has ever wondered where God is in the midst of suffering, this book offers companionship rather than clichés.

Because sometimes, before we can find our way toward the light, we must first be willing to begin in the dark.
