Chapter 1: The Return of Dipu

After seven years in United States, Dipu returned to India during winter vacation. He had become a successful software engineer, spoke with a slight foreign accent, and carried gifts that made his old friends suspiciously emotional.

But the biggest shock? Dipu was married. His college sweetheart Emily had become his wife, and their photos looked straight out of a movie poster. Meanwhile, his three childhood friends, Ramu, Shyam, and Gopal, were still painfully single. Dipu declared dramatically: “By 31st December 2025, all three of you will have girlfriends. Their past attempts at love were disasters. Ramu once asked a girl, “Do you breathe oxygen daily?” Shyam accidentally called a girl “brother.” Gopal gifted a heart-shaped cake with “Best Wishes for Future” written on it. Dipu realized the problem wasn’t looks.

The four friends began studying romance like scientists preparing for a rocket launch. They watched romantic movies, read novels, listened to podcasts, and even practiced smiling in front of mirrors. Dipu created “The Girlfriend Training Program.”

Ramu participated in a city badminton tournament. There he met Sania, a confident state-level badminton star with lightning-fast reflexes and zero patience for nonsense.
One evening after practice, she smiled and said, “You’re less awkward when holding a racket.”

Ramu replied, “You make me forget the score.”

Shyam joined a university cultural festival where he performed as Krishna in a dance drama.

A graceful dancer named Radha played the role of Radha. During rehearsals, Shyam slowly became comfortable around her. Dance helped him express feelings words never could. One rainy evening after practice, Radha confessed,
“When you dance, you stop hiding yourself.”

Shyam smiled softly. “And when you dance, I forget being afraid.”

Gopal’s bakery business faced fierce competition from a newly opened bakery run by an energetic woman named Gopi.

They fought constantly. She mocked his cake designs. He criticized her overpriced cookies. Customers enjoyed the drama almost as much as the pastries. One day, during a city food fair, both stalls lost electricity. Forced to cooperate, they baked together using traditional clay ovens.

Gopi discovered Gopal secretly donated leftover bread to orphanages every night. Gopal learned Gopi started her bakery after struggling financially for years. One late evening while decorating cupcakes, Gopi asked,
“Why do you argue with me so much?”

Gopal answered honestly, “Because when you enter a room, my brain stops functioning properly.”

December arrived. Dipu checked everyone’s progress like a strict project manager.

Ramu and Sania were officially dating. Shyam and Radha had become inseparable. But Gopal still hadn’t confessed properly.

On 30th December, Gopal finally decided to confess at the bakery rooftop.

Instead of romantic words, he accidentally shouted:
“YOU ARE THE PROBLEM OF MY LIFE!”

Then he corrected himself badly:
“I MEAN… the best problem!”
Then she quietly held his hand.

“Good,” she said. “Because you are my favorite headache too.”

At midnight on 31st December 2025, the four friends stood together on a rooftop under fireworks.

Ramu thanked badminton.
Shyam thanked dance.
Gopal thanked destiny and bakery electricity failures.
