Written as a response to Ursula Le Guin's short story, The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, The Ones Who Build Something Better, imagines a fictional city named Rengaw, where the old subjugate the young through control and domination.
This has been occurring for generations, in a cyclical manner. In this generation, some of the young have escaped the city, setting up small hamlets beyond its boundaries based on care and mutual aid. Things are going well until one of the primary villains of Rengaw arrives, seeking sanctuary.
The hamlet's citizens must decide whether to welcome her into their new community or turn her away, despite hearing that she wants to change...
