I picture a life.

It has Australia.

It has birds.

It has chip shops.

It has allotments.

It has tenderness.

Above all, it has one consistent voice running through it.

These poems weren't written to tell you how to feel. They were written to share the moments, places and people that have shaped me. If, somewhere in these pages, you recognise a little of your own life too, then they've done what they were meant to do

David Mascall is a spoken word poet from Hertfordshire whose work explores the wonderment, beauty and heartbreak hidden within everyday life.

Deeply influenced by a lifelong love of music, his poems are rooted in working-class experience and shaped by family, nature, grief, humour and the stories found in ordinary moments. His writing reflects on the daily struggle to keep going, while celebrating the grit, resilience and audacity of ordinary people.

After 55 years of searching, David has finally found his space and his voice through poetry. Drawing inspiration from allotments, open mic stages, country walks and the people he meets along the way, he continues to explore the mystery, heartbreak and wonder of being human.

Deep Fried Soul is his first poetry collection, and he feels his journey has only just begun.
